  Located approximately 30 km east of Cabo de São Vicente, Lagos lies at the mouth of the river 
  Bensafrim and can easily be reached fom our holidayhomes Algarve or Algarve villas.   
  Founded more than 2000 years ago, it has seen many conquerors in its eventful history and was 
  ruled by Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Byzantines and  Moors. During the 15th century period 
  of Portuguese exploration (the so-called „Age of Discovery“) Lagos became the starting point for 
  the Portuguese voyages of discovery directed by Prince Henry the Navigator. 

  Although the historic old town of Lagos was largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1755 it still pre-
  serves many historical monuments which are worth a visit and easy to reach from one of our 
  holidayhomes Algarve or Algarve villas. An impressive historic site of interest is the church 
  of St. Anthony of Lisbon (Igreja de Santo António) built in 1715 with its beautiful and richly deco- 
  rated interior. Its blue-and-white tile paintings (the so-called „Azulejos“) and gilded, intricate woo- 
  den carvings are a delight for the eye. Another historic monument easy to reach from one of our 
  holidayhomes Algarve or Algarve villas is the fort of Ponta da Bandeira (Forte da Ponta da 
  Bandeira). Built in the 17th century its terrace offers a breathtaking view on the beach, the har-
  bour and the town. Its small chapel is decorated with 17th century tile paintings (the so-called 
  „Azulejos“). The regional museum (Museo regional) is also easy to reach from one of our 
  holidayhomes Algarve or Algarve villas and houses a collection of archaeological finds 
  from prehistoric and neolithic times and European and African weapons. 

  After a sightseeing trip started from one of our holidayhomes Algarve or Algarve villas you 
  can divert yourself while strolling through the alleys of the historic old town of Lagos. When staying 
  in one of our holidayhomes Algarve or Algarve villas you might as well visit Lagos by night 
  and explore the large variety of bars, restaurants and the nightlife venues.

  guese cuisine. Taste local specialties such as Dom rodrigos and morgados cookies, a glass of 
  moscatel wine and aguardente de medronho in one of the numerous bars and restaurants in Lagos.

  Interrupted by wild romantic rock formations and protruding cliffs, nearby Meia Praia beach,
  Praia Solaria beach and Dona Ana beach invite you to relaxing, sunbathing and swimming and 
  are easy to access from our holidayhomes Algarve or Algarve villas. With one of our 
  holidayhomes Algarve or Algarve villas being located close by it´s only a few minutes walk 
  to Praia da Luz beach. This beach offers a large variety of water sports activities and other sports 
  activities such as diving, paragliding, wind surfing, kite surfing, golf, tennis etc.
