Casa Baleia and Casa Golfhino are two traditional stone houses and served as storehouses of the Quinta de Gabriele. The Quinta de Gabriele is a country estate which was built around 1870 and which has belonged to one of the oldest families of Graciosa Island. The Quinta consists of approximately 5000 square metres land distributed on several terraces at the hillside of a caldera (also known as the "Caldeira Graciosa"). The view goes to the south, during clear weather you can see Sao Jorge Island, Faial Island and Pico mountain, the highest mountain of Portugal. The sea is 80 metres away from the house and separated from the house only by a few vinyards and coastroad.

A large stone terrace for the guests extends in front of both guest houses. A green terrace with lush flourishing cactuses and plants extends aside the stone terrace. A place for lazy days and active days in rural quietness.
The holiday home Casa Golfinho with its 30 square metres large living space is suitable for 2 up to 3 persons. Built in country specific style with thick lava stone walls and with windows looking southwards, the one-storey house is pleasently cool in the summer. It has a living/bedroom with double bed and sea view, a kitchenette and a shower bath. On the terrace you find a stonewalled barbecue.
The larger holiday house Casa Baleia (60 square metres) has a bedroom with double bed, a shower bath, a kitchenette in the anteroom, a bedroom with bunk bed and an extra bed and offers space for 4 to 5 persons. The one and half floor living room is partially furnished with antiquities and has large windows looking eastwards and westwards (sunrises and sunsets inclusive) and a terrace with barbecue right in front of the door.
Both allergy-friendly holiday houses have electric heating with dehumidifier, cable TV, radio and cd player. A washing machine, an upright freezer, telephone and internet connection are available to the guests in the main building. The Quinta de Graciosa has a very large garden with own vegetable beds. You can fish your own lunch at the rocky coast in front of the house. Of course you can also taste the self distilled liquors of the owners. Pets are admitted on demand if these get along with the two friendly dogs living in the main building and with the geese living on the uppermost terrace.
The Quinta da Gabriele offers a specialty: the combination of holidays and therapy. The owner of the house is a trained Audio-Psycho-phonologist and has 12 years of professional experience in Germany. She offers a complete and medication free therapy for children with learning disorder and behaviour disorder. Exploiting the possibility of thermal bath cures, she also offers metabolism restoration, detoxification and purification for adults with loss of hearing, burnout symptoms and depression symptoms. Carapacho lies at the southern slope of the Caldeira in the south of Graciosa Island. The Caldeira with its vegetated craters offers the possibility of descending into the depths of the earth to an active sulfur lake. In Carapacho there are also the hot thermal sources which are popular for their healing effect. Here you also find a charming nostalgic thermal bath, which is attended only by a single spa doctor in the summer, and the only natural pool on the island where you can swim safely even during a larger swell. Situated at the westend of Carapacho village, the Quinta da Gabriele lies a bit elevated and relocated from the street which is frequented mainly by donkey carts and cows. The island offers adventure holidays to children and contemplative privacy to townspeople in need of rest. There is no shopping centre, no crowd, no excitement.
The next shopping possibility is 3 km away and the main town of Santa Cruz Island is 12 km away. |  |
